Jimmy Gazaway is an experienced prosecuting attorney, small business owner, and rental property owner who is running for State Representative for District 57, which includes the cities of Paragould and Oak Grove Heights, and southern Greene County. A native of Paragould, Jimmy graduated from Paragould High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Arkansas State University in 2003, graduating with honors and being recognized as the Outstanding Graduate in Political Science for 2003.
He earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006. He has been licensed to practice law in Arkansas since 2006. Jimmy has deep roots in Paragould and Greene County, having been born in Paragould and raised just outside of Oak Grove Heights. Jimmy attended elementary and middle school at Oak Grove and graduated from Paragould High School. He is married to Jessica Gazaway. She teaches art and coordinates the gifted & talented program at Greene County Tech. They have one daughter, Julianna, and reside in Paragould. Professionally, Jimmy is an experienced prosecuting attorney.
Since 2008, Jimmy has represented the State of Arkansas as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas. In that capacity, Jimmy gained extensive trial experience, having tried numerous jury trials and bench trials. Jimmy has prosecuted several high-profile cases, including Capital Murder, 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, Manslaughter, Negligent Homicide, Rape, and Sexual Assault, among many others. He is also serves as counsel to several local municipalities.
Jimmy is also a small business owner, having owned and operated a small business in Paragould since 2008, engaging in the private practice of law. Jimmy is very attuned to the needs of small business. His father, Jim Gazaway, operated a small business in Paragould for many years--Jim Gazaway Electric & Heating and Air and his brother, Grant Gazaway, currently operates Gazaway Electric and Heating & Air and is involved in local construction.
Additionally, Jimmy's extended family has owned and operated one of the longest standing and well-known small businesses in Paragould, Gazaway Lumber Co., where Jimmy worked while in college. Jimmy is a member of the Greene County Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association, Arkansas Prosecuting Attorneys Association, National District Attorneys Association, the Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce, Paragould Young Professionals, and Leadership Paragould class XIX.
Jimmy's priorities as State Representative will be to work for a more prosperous Paragould and Greene County, to promote continued economic growth and development, to support laws and policies that will help small businesses thrive, and to be a representative of conservative values and ideas in Little Rock.
